Under a crucifix he had in his room, Victor Hugo, the author of Les Misérables, wrote this prayer:
All you who are crying now, remember that I cried too –
so come to me and I will console you.
All you who are suffering now, remember how much I suffered
- so come to me, I fully understand you.
All you are fearful right now, remember that I had a lot
to be fearful of – so come to me, and I will comfort you.
All you who are nearing death, remember that I endured a
harsh death too – so come to me, and we will live forever.
