The day of the Eucharist and the day of the Priesthood. After the
morning Chrism Mass which is held in most Cathedrals, when the Bishop consecrates the oils of Catechumens, of the Sick and the oil of Chrism mixed with balsam, the
evening Mass commemorates the Last Supper followed by visits to the Altars of Repose.
These are decorated lavishly, colorfully and beautifully in all churches and chapels. This
year with the Covid-19 restrictions, people can only attend in churches
privately, and these altars may not be decorated as usual. Nonetheless I share
with you some of these spectacularly-decorated altars in various Maltese
churches in past years. They are in order from the towns of Naxxar, St Julian's, Mosta, Mdina and Rabat.
