Biking through the Hamptons

My biking experience when I first arrived on Long Island took me to various towns and villages. With a few Irish boys I also organized long trips towards Montauk Point, at the every end of Long Island, a distance of around 110 miles, and back to New Hyde Park. In the area known as the Hamptons, one could see many typical landmarks, which are also tourist attractions. There were towns like Southampton, Bridgehampton, Hampton Bays, and East Hampton. These were two interesting features, a windmill and a church, most probably Episcopalian.

Since they were strategically placed on the main road, one would stop by to see them and take photos of them, as I did. On the beach in the same area, were many houses built literally on the sand, on stilts. They were owned by popular New York millionaires and famous artists like Billy Joel and Paul Simon. Unfortunately, when a hurricane hits the south shore of Long Island, they were easily destroyed. No problem, the insurance will pay for their rebuilding - once again on the sand.
