Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima

I never write on politics, but this is a topic that speaks about reconciliation and forgiveness. It comes from two of the world’s superpowers and needs to be mentioned, for what it's worth. Last August, US President Barack Obama was the first President to visit Hiroshima, Japan, the site where the atom bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945. Today the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which took place on December 7, 1941, the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe will be visiting Pearl Harbor. This reciprocal move is very meaningful and shows that even though thousands were killed in both attacks, there is time for healing and forgiveness. Though both Obama and Abe were not even born when these tragedies happened, however they represent two nations who were enemies 75 years ago, but times have changed, and it’s good to see both of them praying at respective places where devastation and utter horror were displayed so unexpectedly, so suddenly and so cruelly. Let us pray for all those who died in these two major attacks in World War II.
