Yes,....what goes up.....must come down ! And Lionel Messi experienced this last Sunday when his Argentina team was humiliated by a stronger Spanish team, eventually winning the World Cup in the Meadowlands in New Jersey. Throughout the previous games, Argentina were at their best, and Messi was the one who kept them going, often at the last few seconds, as was the case with Cape Verde and England at the semi-final. The jubilation that this photo represents reflects the euphoria in which the players were basking in, as they lifted their captain in the air. The hands that are seen in the photo were sure to catch him as he descended. But last Sunday after the final, there was no one to catch him. What goes up, must come down, and this time it was a trashing thumping the Blues received from the Spanish team. The statistics were just astounding in comparison. Spain had 22 shots at goal, scoring only once, while Argentina had only 2 shots, only one of them at goal towards the end of the 120 minute encounter. And if it wasn’t for the several great saves the Argentinian goalie did, the score could very well have been 4-0 or even 5-0. I’m sorry Senor Messi, you’ve had much better days, and your career may soon be over, but remember that what goes up, must come down. Congratulations nonetheless for a stellar career, and many spectacular goals you scored over the past 20 years.
