Among the most popular descriptions of God in the Bible is the one that refers to Him as Abba, Father. In the Aramaic language, which Jesus spoke, the word Abba can be translated as ‘Daddy’ which most children refer to their father. It is a phrase that means intimacy, affection, paternal love, exclusive attraction that a child develops towards his earthly father. And just as every child has ears wide open to hear what their father tells them, there are also 2 wide eyes open to see everything their father does. And an English proverb says that a good father is worth a hundred teachers. It’s interesting to note that when we were children, we used to call our father ‘daddy’, while we called our mother an Italian expression ‘mamma,’ which also has an affective and maternal meaning behind it.
