Gaudi’s Barcelona

Yesterday Barcelona belonged to Antoni Gaudi as his image shined and sparkled over the dark sky after the devout and historic Mass celebrated by Pope Leo XIV inside the Sagrada Familia. Concelebrating with a few Cardinals, several bishops and many priests, as well attended by a King and a Queen, a Prime Minister and his wife, and thousands of Catholic faithful, the pope reminded the people to keep strong in their faith, and continue to be kind, welcoming and peace-makers. At the end of the Mass, everyone walked out in front of the basilica and looked upwards as the cross was blessed, young voices heralded the attendees with their angelic voices, and the façade lit up, inside and outside, as the image of Antoni Gaudi appeared in the sky, created by drones, then looking sideways towards his masterpiece, as if to say ‘it is finally finished !!!’. Would he had ever imagined what the scene would look like exactly 100 years from his death back on June 10, 1926 ? Venerable Antoni Gaudi now waits for his beatification and eventual canonization – because only a saint could create something so massive, so beautiful, so touching, so modern, yet so conducive to prayer.
