The people who really matter

A group of students were asked a series of questions. However they were told they didn’t have to answer them. The questions were:

1.Name the 5 wealthiest people in the world.  2. Name the last 5 Superbowl winners. 3. Name the last 5 Miss World contest winners. 4. Name 10 people who have won the Nobel Peace prize. 5. Name the last 10 Oscar winners for the best movie. 6. Name the last 10 Grand Prix Formula 1 winners.

The point is: few of us remember the headlines of yesterday. We heard of all these great achievers when they won something. The are the best in their fields. The applause dies away, The achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates and trophies are buried with their owners. But here’s another quiz – see how you do on this one. You have to answer this time.

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school. 2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time. 3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile. 4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special. 5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with. 6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.

Easier? The lesson is simple. The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with most credentials, the biggest bank account or the most rewards or trophies. They are the ones who care, who left an impact in your life, who were there when you needed them the most.
