Churches during Lent

The parish church in Naxxar during the Lenten season.
Several churches in Malta are draped in black tapestry as the solemn and somber mood dominates the liturgical celebration at this time of the year. One such church is the parish where I serve and where my chapel at Hilltop Gardens is located, in Naxxar. I celebrate Mass there every Sunday morning and it is quite impressive to see the whole church in decorative black drapery and all the statues to be used during the Good Friday procession on display all around the church.
The pulpit and statues around the same church.
Stations of the Cross are held, special sermons are held for various groups of people, as everything now leads to the devotional feast of Our Lady of Sorrows on the Friday before Good Friday. This will be followed by Palm Sunday and into Holy Week, as more and more exhibitions and displays start being advertised.
