The main altar of St Publius church in Floriana, Malta |
Last Sunday I visited another parish church in the town of Floriana, where the feast of St Publius was being celebrated. Publius was the chief of Malta when St Paul was shipwrecked in 60 AD, according to the Acts of the Apostles, and he is considered as the first Bishop. The church was partially destroyed during World War II but was rebuilt within a few years. As you can see the inside was dressed up like all other Baroque churches that dominate the Maltese skyline. Tapestries, chandeliers, silver candle-stands, an elaborate baldacchino are all present.
The ceiling shows paintings done by my favorite Maltese artist Emvin Cremona, and will be highlighted in tomorrow’s blog. For today just enjoy the beauty of this beautiful church, which has an array of velvet vestments adorned with gold embroidery. Click on each photo to see a sharper definition of each photo.

Thank you. It was a delight looking at the beautiful pictures.
