Between today and tomorrow, a drastic change
will happen in the lives of many people. Granted that the pandemic has turned
our lives upside down, and Carnival as we know it has not been celebrated these
past 2 years. But a little revelry has taken place in some towns, while the
reverence we expect starting tomorrow in our churches may be subdued, as
churches are not completely open to all people. Yet Lent is here with us, and
as we bid goodbye to a minimized Carnival, it’s time to start focusing on this
special time of the year, when the masked floats will be replaced by our
steeples and domes. And so this photo I took a few years ago, provides a
reflection on the contrast we will experience today and tomorrow. We say
goodbye to revelry, dancing and partying, and say hello to penance, prayer and
reflection. Above all, let us hope that the transition from war to peace will also soon be realized in Ukraine.
