Charity from Marcus Rashford
Besides scoring important goals for his famous team Manchester United, 22
year-old Marcus Rashford has become a model example of charitable
contributions, especially to help poor and hungry children. Together
with the British charity FareShare, they have reached their financial
target to supply three million meals to vulnerable people across the UK. He
had initially set a goal of raising £100,000
and feeding 400,000 children after partnering with the food poverty and waste
charity back in April. The England international football star has since vastly surpassed that target, however, with over
£20 million raised. In
May he was recognized by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester,
Eamonn O’Neal, for "outstanding activity and contribution to the
community".
On his Twitter account, he wrote “And whilst I’m celebrating this, there is SO much more to do. Trust me
when I say, I will keep fighting until no child in the UK has to worry about
where their next meal is coming from.” When asked how he was able to do it,
Marcus said he simply asked food companies with a surplus of
product to donate it, and the call was answered. Rashford, who announced he grew up on free school meals, humbly
stated “I am just trying to
impact the next generation in a positive way.”
