Malta Bishop promoted

Pope Francis greeting Bishop Mario Grech
Bishop Mario Grech, the Bishop of Gozo, our sister island, will end his leadership of the Diocese of Gozo to take up a new role at the Vatican. Even though he will still be recognized as the Apostolic Administrator of Gozo until a new bishop is chosen, he will be taking up the role of pro-Secretary of the Synod of Bishops. Then in August 2020, he will become officially the Secretary of the Synod of Bishops, whose role will be to coordinate the works behind the organization of Vatican Synods. In fact this week a Synod for the Amazon Regions will start, and Bishop Grech will be involved in the ongoing work and organizational aspect. Bishop Mario Grech is 62 and was ordained in 1984, and has been the Bishop of Gozo since January 2006. He was beloved by everyone and respected for his contributions to various social and religious issues, through pastoral letters, homilies, and interviews.
