Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II met several times. One day when the Pope was visiting India, Mother Teresa was in a car on her way to New Delhi to welcome the Pope. As she was being driven, on the side of the road, she saw a leper suffering in solitude. She asked the driver to stop, got out and went to the leper, spoke to him at length, comforted him, conveyed God's love to him and sowed hope and courage in him. Because of this stop, Mother Teresa arrived late for her appointment with the Pope. When one of the Cardinals told her that she had kept the Pope waiting, she calmly replied: "Yes, I know, but on the way I met Christ!"
